THE PREMISE.

The Beaconhill Lighthouse stands as a landmark amidst the rugged terrain of Western Thanalan, its imposing presence casting a watchful gaze over the land. Yet, beyond its facade as a guiding light for wayward sailors, lies a realm shrouded in mystery—the headquarters of Danse Macabre.Rising majestically from the earth, the lighthouse commands attention with its towering structure, stretching high into the sky, seemingly touching the heavens themselves. From the surface, it presents an imposing sight, boasting twenty floors that pierce the skyline with stoic resolve. Yet, it is the uppermost reaches of the lighthouse that hold most secrets untold, its summit veiled in an aura of exclusivity, inaccessible to both employees and parlor guests alike.For those who seek solace within the halls of Danse Macabre, the journey begins at the base of the lighthouse, where a solemn procession of mourners oft gather. Guided by the gentle glow of lanterns, they ascend the spiraling staircase that winds its way through the heart of the structure, each step a call to the passage of time and the inevitability of fate.As visitors ascend the floors of the lighthouse, they are enveloped by an atmosphere of quiet reverence, punctuated only by the soft murmur of whispered conversations and the occasional mournful strain of music. Each floor serves as a sanctuary of remembrance, adorned with ornate furnishings and exquisite artwork that pay homage to lives now passed.Though the secrets of the Beaconhill Lighthouse may remain veiled in obscurity, within its hallowed halls, the journey from life to death is honored with grace and dignity, each soul guided by the gentle glow of the eternal flame that flickers at the heart of the lighthouse's tower.

THE HISTORY.

The black market organization known as the Dark Veil was established by Angelus Desdemona when he was just eighteen summers old. He founded it out of necessity, as his family's Funeral Parlor was in danger of being lost due to a shortage of gil and business. Determined to preserve what remained of his family's legacy, Angelus delved into the Black Market.Initially, the Dark Veil focused on the grim task of removing and disposing of corpses, without questioning the motives of those who requested their services. Over time, the business began to expand and adapt to the changing market demands. They transitioned from corpse handling to transportation, then to drug manufacturing. Eventually, the Dark Veil started supplying Soul Stones, which were taken from the arms of deceased adventurers, unbeknownst to their grieving families who received replicas instead. These Soul Stones fetched a high price, exceeding Angelus' expectations, and ensured a steady income for both his Funeral Parlor and the Dark Veil. Through his personal research, Angelus also discovered that Voidsent could be temporarily sealed within stones called auracite, and released at will. When presented as product, this discovery further attracted the attention of unscrupulous individuals who were willing to pay a hefty sum for such a product, and the Dark Veil gladly catered to their demands without hesitation.Today, the Dark Veil has grown significantly in both size and scope. It offers a range of services including corpse handling, organ harvesting, smuggling of Soul stones, enthrallment and extermination of Voidsent, light-aspected studies, trafficking of drugs (such as tinctures and potions), intelligence gathering, the sale of illicit assets, and on very rare occassion, assasination. Their objective is to further disseminate their influence within the black market, uphold a substantial financial stream, and establish a degree of authority over individuals in positions of power, all while avoiding exposure to the public eye.It is imperative for a shadow to operate discreetly, emerging only when absolutely essential.

at the helm of danse macabre stand the figureheads. they are led by lord desdemona, who serves as the founder of the organization. alongside him are his devoted servants, who dutifully guide and nurture the little lambs within their fold.

the son.

[ desdemona | he / him | carrd ] — son of the late he can rot in hell desdemona, angelus, the present proprietor of the danse macabre funeral parlor and the founder of the dark veil, is a sickly miqo'te who speaks sparingly and is seldom found unless sought out deliberately. even then, one is more apt to come across his houses rather than the man himself, as he tends to isolate himself in his study, absorbed in his research on the occult.

cocytus.

[ tamamo | they / them ] — lord desdemona's appointed master of the house. that is all you need to know.

alpheus.

[ deirbhile | he / him ] — the spearhead of the bliss project and once a member of the sharlayan forum, saved from exile by the grace of father cecilion, the former alpheus. taken under the wing of the revered priest, he has found guidance as a devout messenger for the word of the divine, carrying a cordial and calm presence where no sin clouds the love he imparts. with the integration of alpheus's sacred operations in the lighthouse, paradise is just beyond the doorstep for the mourning and the departed. but as light exists, so too must darkness. salvation looms ever closer.

acheron.

[ hati | he / him ] — a wood warder. he undertakes the duty of safeguarding the deceased from the lingering grasp of curses. his responsibilities encompass the retrieval, preservation, cremation, burial, and cleansing of corpses, ensuring that the transition to the afterlife is peaceful and free from malevolent influences. in his capacity as acheron, he commands a select unit of trained killers known as the widowmakers within the dark veil, and these same people delve into organ harvesting. with his cadre of slayers and a murder of crows at his disposal, acheron serves as the right fist and eyes of danse macabre.

eridanos.

[ tessa | she / her | carrd ] — this small woman is the epitome of discretion; a guarded and charismatic conversationalist, she navigates the coordination of people and heavy lifting for the parlor, whether that be moving the coffins themselves, or filling them from the shadows. a tactician by nature, she wields information and power with a light touch to influence movement for danse macabre where needed.

lerna.

[ lusyne | she / her ] — the witch of danse macabre, lady lerna, ensures that the dead receive a venerable performance from her darlings. perfection is the bare minimum: every note must be played to its fullest potential, every word must be rife with meaning, and every song must bleed with emotion. life is but a stage, after all, and lady lerna demands everyone play their part. funerary performers, eulogists, composers, lyricists, and poets answer to her. they are her pawns, and their audience is death itself. impress them, bring them to tears, stir their soul with yearning to live. even the dead deserve to dance, don’t you think?

lethe.

[ kayden | he / him | carrd ] — he will write you a prescription for pleasure.

phlegethon.

[ dioptase | he / him | carrd ] — too kindhearted for his own good, this eccentric, down-to-earth everyman is as straitlaced as he is anxious. a lover of song, wine, and the warden, he has a terrible habit of getting himself into unfortunate situations without realizing. if you ask him, he'd tell you he fell upwards into this position. truth is, he's more than qualified to take up the mantle. (probably.)

styx.

[ ari | he / him ] — on the surface, there's nothing noteworthy about he, who devotes his attention to admin and order. though he has a history just like anyone else, it's beyond the veil that his skills really shine. like the mists and darkness that are his previous alias (erebus), he enshrouds and obscures that business which should never be brought to light.

charon.

[ ? | ? ] — the ferrymen. rather harmless looking familiars, but with dubious glowing crimson eyes. charon is the name that the overwhelming amount of jet black crows surrounding the funeral parlor go by. they check the authenticity of a ferryman’s coin with their beak and their sharp sight and senses are used to observe foes and allies alike. the acherons often trade consciousness with these little crows much to danse macabre’s advantage.

the father.

[ cecilion | alpheus | he / him ] — the venerable head priest of house alpheus and its former title holder. from the very genesis of danse macabre, his presence has been an immutable fixture, cloaked in the sanctity of his sacred vows yet veiling desires most sinister beneath his austere facade. in the eyes of the devout and the uninitiated alike, he is the epitome of reverence and piety. his countenance exudes an aura of solemnity, his every gesture steeped in the grace of divine servitude. yet beneath this veneer of holiness lies a darkness that few dare to acknowledge.

the sister.

[ carmilla | alpheus | she / her ] — former lamb, previous acheron and has returned as the executioner. she is a woman of the cloth and worships the twelve alongside father cecilion and the rest of house alpheus as the head nun.

the omen.

[ gatoru | phlegethon | he / him ] — former lamb and former phlegethon, now head treasurer and the parlor's primary sponsor. a man whose heart beats only for the clink of coin and the rustle of gil. with a mind as calculating as a banker's ledger, he assists the financial domain of danse macabre with an iron grip. he is the master of numbers, overseeing every transaction, legal intricacy, and wake formalities with unwavering precision. but his talents extend beyond the mundane realm of funeral parlor logistics; he is also the head auctioneer of the dark veil. with a silver tongue that can coax fortunes from the most reluctant of buyers, he navigates the shadowy world of illicit trades with cunning.

the watchmaker.

[ ixia | styx | she / her ] — keeper of the shop. she hails from a distant, star-kissed land where the night sky reigns eternal. From a young age, she was enchanted by the celestial bodies, spending countless bells mapping the stars and interpreting their whispers. This passion led her to become an Astrologian, mastering the arcane arts of divination and celestial healing. she is also danse macabre's memokeeper.

head investigator.

[ wei | phlegethon | he / him / carrd ] — The Daidouji family's Head Inquirer and one of the many fingers Danse has dipped in the pie of Hingashi's ever restrictive trade circuit. While he serves his family first and foremost, he manages secondarily as an Emissary to the lighthouse, and a pillar of support to Danse Macabre's Secret Keeper.

secret keeper.

[ corryn | phlegethon | she / her ] — the ever-so-elusive secret keeper safeguards the flow of information in the underworld. that rumor that caught your attention? that secret that was whispered in your ear? the classified information that just so happened to fall in your lap? all of that is the secret keeper’s doing. as a result, her loyalty is oft questioned, but none can deny that her devotion belongs only to danse macabre’s head investigator.

sun chaser.

[ skoll | cis male | he / him ] — he is both fierce and vigilant. unlike his twin brother who focuses on more important matters nearest to the dark veil's domain, this one takes care of tasks that require constant movement. utilizing his expertise as a monster hunter and wood warder, he hunts down and eliminates nuisances and potential threats to the organization. preferring solitude over socializing, he remains elusive and rarely makes an appearance unless called upon by his other half or lord desdemona.

the guardian.

[ kaon | eridanos | she / her ] — Summoned from the remnants of a lost world, as a distant piece of Eridanos, kaon fulfills the role of additional support for the house in the role of Guardian. Her wide experiences from many reincarnated lives while ruler of the kingdom of Erinn supplement an extremely varied set of skills, lending to her expertise as a weapon master.

[ asterius | styx | he / him ] — The quiet bookkeeper tending to the traveling library's stores. Gifted with the royally-passed skill of turning scripture to memoriate crystal, he is often employing this boon, rarely seen on the surface side, and utterly mousey when spotted.

the emberkeeper.

[ ten | lerna | he / him ] — As The Emberkeeper of The Harmony Haven, his role is maintaining the smoking room’s reputation as a unique and integral part of the parlor. the space serves as a place of respite and reflection for clients of the funeral parlor but also as a hub for residents seeking solace, ritual, or even escapism through the fine art of smoking.

the vice.

[ erinyes | acheron | he / they / she | carrd ] — associate of the acherons. one of few words but affirmed in his actions, calm but unnervingly so. with the burden of many winters as a mortician, neither saints nor sinners escape his judgment, beautiful and deceptive through and through. perhaps it is a reflection of himself, much like a doll on strings.

the mercy.

[ asclepius | alpheus | she / her ] — to this healer, someone who needs her aid takes priority. whether they're finding salvation or facing certain death, asclepius offers them her hand.

the retainer.

[ harpy | cocytus / alpheus | he / him ] — a public associate of house cocytus and another one who dons the mask. he disguises himself as an elezen man. a chef of the surface.

the faceless.

[ arachne | cocytus | any ] — shiro is a member of cocytus and masquerades as a miqo'te lamb. gifted by the blessing of a fox tail, he had lived a mortal life, but now is mortal no longer. with amazing prowess he can change his appearance to be whatever he wants, whatever he needs, molding himself to the task dutifully. you never know who he is, where he is, what he's doing, what he has planned. like a spider in the corner, he listens and watches, waiting and watching, laying webbed trap for the next victim to fall into.

the beholder.

[ sappho | cocytus | she / her ] — miko is one of the cocytus and a half miqo'te and half au ra in disguise. a beautician of the surface. what does she do for the dark veil? who knows.

the receiver.

[ aphrodite | cocytus | she / her ] — higanbana is one of the cocytus who disguises herself as an au ra lamb. she is a calligrapher, seamstress and traditional artist. she is also a blood mage.

the alchemist.

[ lepus | cocytus | he / they ] — jiao insists that he is the chosen servant of the deity chang'e and was banished to eorzea as a form of punishment. ever since then, he has been working for his cocytus' superiors. only those in charge of cocytus can confirm whether this claim is true or not. he has a unique expertise in creating potions and the gifted ability to create a 'pocket space' which he uses to expand his room and work space. despite his professional demeanor in most situations, he easily becomes overwhelmed and can be quickly brought to tears. this is why he tries his best to live an introverted lifestyle, but unfortunately, his peers make it impossible for him to do so. to fit in with the other workers, he assumes a false identity, but this proves to be challenging due to how often he contradicts himself. in the same sentence. multiple times. but, he's a pretty nice guy. most times.

the vassal.

[ keres | eridanos | they / them | carrd ] — the prodigal child of outlawed mages, shivali entangled themself in danse macabre after murdering the ringleaders of their parents' cult. once driven by violence to cure their crystalline corruption, the reformed shivali has since risen the ranks as associate to lady eridanos. they now seek to reverse their curse, whilst shepherding the lambs from the same hardships they suffered.

the lodestar.

[ theseus | eridanos | she / her ] — Mortal greed pales by comparison.

the proxy.

[ achilles | lerna | he / him | carrd ] — a master in many arts, with a thirst to master more and an even more insatiable desire to occupy his time away from his thoughts. he is a wayward soul with power and promise that roils beneath his exterior of a lackadaisical goof that lives only to keep on living.

[ autolycus | lerna | he / him ] — the right-hand man of lady lerna herself, he arrived at the parlor alongside of the creation of her house as the prime overseer of its technical facilities. one may find it difficult to appreciate his impressive work however, as he boasts a terribly foul attitude and a sharp tongue.

[ atlas | lethe | he / him | carrd ] — outside of being an extremely accomplished medic, the only thing icier than his personality is his magicks.

the admin.

[ elysium | lethe | he / him ] — an engineer for the garlond ironworks, hand-selected by lethe to act as his direct assistant. with an infectious smile and a can-do attitude, elysium makes up for his lack of combat ability with an encyclopaedic knowledge of all things allagan, magitek, and mechanical in nature.

the assessor.

[ galen | phlegethon / lethe | he / him ] — A humble therapist and a skilled assessor. Originally from Sharlayan, he carries a wealth of knowledge and a measured compassionate approach to his work. While he has made significant contributions to House Lethe, he now serves as the trusted right hand of Lord Phlegethon.

the director.

[ roumpini | styx | he / they ] — a young man obsessed with beauty and eternity. some say he has not aged a sun, and those same people are now approaching the end of their natural lifespan. his ravenous appetite contrasts with his petite frame and delicate smiles. hailing from the frozen lands of ishgard, roumpíni is in charge of crafting the most elegant of swords… and to bring some of the secrets of the parlor to his undying grave.

Each member has pledged their loyalty, with some delving into the depths of the Dark Veil, while others remain unaware [*] of the organization's more sinister aspects, living in blissful ignorance.

[ he / him | phlegethon / styx ] — stoic and calm; he's consistently found in the vicinity of eleni, very much devoted to her safekeeping. he's a very direct and clear person, likely to share his mind bluntly, but politely; something that might make you question if he just threatened you or was being respectful. his talents are both martial and numerical; he'll balance your tax sheet as effectively as he'll end a combat. his arrows do not miss.

athena.

[ any | acheron / eridanos | carrd ] — she's kind but fierce, shy but welcoming. do not mistake her kindness or affliction as weakness, for she holds the power of great strength and is not afraid to use it if confronted. getting on her bad side will be a fatal mistake.

deimos.

[ he / they | styx / acheron | carrd ] — welcome back to the land of the living.

koinos.

[ he / him | acheron / eridanos ] — he might not seem the type to be involved in any shady dealings but there's far more than meets the eye with this miqo'te whose friendly demeanor invites you to underestimate him. to an extent a jack of all trades with a proficiency in combat, he's not afraid to get his hands dirty. tasks that would turn the stomachs of lesser men and call his morality into question are not beyond him.

tartarus.

[ they / he | cocytus / styx | carrd ] — the chains of his past now broken, sr'dinhe strives to make a better future for his current self than his previous self was ever able to do. despite losing half of his memories, he keeps his heart open and unbound. he no longer wishes to keep it locked up and deprive himself of the love and affection that others claim he deserves.

[ she / her | lethe / styx ] — an eccentric 'doctor' that heals by weaving time and darkness, her conversations are often as chaotic as her cures. just don't ask her what she's doing; she'll tell you.

argos.

[ he / it | acheron / eridanos ] — his appearance belies inelegant violence, the mask a warning for would-be annoyances. this one's work is performed with a brutal precision, and second chances are seldom afforded to unfortunate targets. it is said that they rarely escape his grasp for long.

atalante.

[ she / her | lerna / lethe ] — a decisive and reliable ally, seeking to be a hero for the future. for a list of reasons, she's doing this with a large gun in hand in a criminal organization. it's probably a good idea.

cerberus.

[ he / him | eridanos / acheron ] — an ever present guardian, his steady support has ensured that the lighthouse stands an immutable beacon for the guidance of souls living and dead. he was around long before the parlor's inception and he'll be there long after it's gone; a sentinel enduring the inevitable march of time.

chaos.

[ she / her | acheron / cocytus ] — While she is kami from Hingashi with power over weather, Meiko has long since distanced herself from exerting any major influence with her abilities as a kami; grief from loss of her sister and the shift of the political landscape of Hingashi caused her to leave many years ago, and she has since been working as a shadow warrior of sorts, using her combat expertise to secure work in the underside of Uldah.

diomedes.

[ he / him | eridanos / cocytus ] — civilian life never suited this man, who quickly made a name for himself in the maelstrom summers ago. so, then, he did the next best thing: offer his services to a funeral parlor in hopes of finding closure for past and current turmoil. despite trying his best to life a comfortable and retired life on land, diomedes found himself falling into old habits — which is, sailing the seas once again.

dioscuri.

[ he / they | eridanos / lerna ] — a veteran adventurer but at the same time, a rather strange miqo'te. after being a 'failed' experiment by the empire, this miqo'te has the peculiarity of being two souls in one body. while the specialty of one is efficiency and discretion, the specialty of the other is strength and protection.

hermes.

[ they / he / it | alpheus / styx ] — the shadows are old, ancient things and have been here since the beginning. they has been a member for a very long time, and prefer to move about unseen. not only that, but there is something dangerously eerie about their aether. care to take a glance?

icarus.

[ he / him | lerna / lethe ] — by day, he's a skilled parlor musician and dedicated instructor, enchanting audiences with his melodies and guiding people with passion. but as night descends, he is an amdapori researcher, delving into realms of light-aspected knowledge, driven by an insatiable curiosity that knows no bounds. he joined danse macabre to find answers for his own predicament.

iris.

[ they / them | acheron / cocytus ] — having lost their dreams to death, elpis now struggles to hold onto a hope that is nothing more than string fraying at the edges. drowning themself in their work and personal ambitions, they search for a new cause to latch their hope onto; giving new life to their dreams, no matter the cost.

megaera.

[ she / her | cocytus / acheron ] — She is a freeloader that wanders into Eridanos' house, eats her food, and sleeps on her couch. She's been doing this off and on like an outdoor cat for a while now. So, Eridanos made her get a job.

menelaus.

[ he / him | alpheus / eridanos ] — was it the booze? the rotten smell of dead comrades? the melodies you sing to help you sleep at night? the fire that warms instead of burn? you cradle it close, colder than the touch of ice. it is your ambitions. it is your son. till sea swallows all.

nefritis.

[ he / him | styx / acheron ] — a blacksmith hailing from the far east. after familiarizing himself with eorzea and its customs, he was recommended to work at the parlor as a weaponsmith. in actuality, he is one of the wardens of lord styx's cornerstones.

oceanus.

[ he / him | eridanos / acheron ] — a pirate who commands the ss inquisitor. he is a man of unwavering loyalty and boundless ambition. having pledged his allegiance to three generations of eridanos, he is a stalwart servant of the organization. yet, his loyalty comes with a caveat. he operates by his own rules beyond the purview of his masters, so long as his actions do not threaten the organization's interests.

orion.

[ he / him | cocytus / phlegethon ] — A former Garlean spy who long - since defected and took up an interest in botany and perfumes. His knowledge on flora and scents is put to use for the parlor, but do not be fooled. The old Orion still festers beneath the skin — after all, there is no getting rid of old habits.

paris.

[ he / him | acheron / cocytus ] — he has that sadness in his eyes that you only see in western coerthas gay porn.

xerxes.

[ he / him | cocytus / acheron ] — a digital artist from solution nine. he came to the parlor by following his wife ( gender neutral ) because he's just a wifeguy and everything seiu says goes. he dedicates his entire life just going with their whims because their happiness is his happiness. he is also a bioweapon smith and enjoys making random weaponry just for the fun of it without really considering the consequences.

zagreus.

[ he / him | lethe / styx ] — a criminal under probation. he's sent to danse macabre to correct his ways. he's a man who has dipped his toes in many cladestine activities to provide for his adoptive sister. at present, he has been inducted into the veil against his will, later revealed that he was personally pursued by lord styx due to his voidal corruption.

zeus.

[ she / her | alpheus / cocytus ] — A proud strategist, both cunning and excessively linguistic. As the first Apostle for house Alpheus, she brings both momentum and grace to the plans of the house. With no memories prior to her work as part of the parlor due to her part in the Bliss experiments, she believes herself to be the holy vessel of the Emperor of Mu, and as such exclusively enlightened to best fulfill the needs of the house.

abyssos.

[ he / she / they | cocytus ] — disguised as a Viera, this auspice arrived from the Far East with the intention of staying close to their kin. Living among mortals for their own satisfaction and tired of having problems with some people from Kugane, this kitsune decided to open the borders and offered their skills to the parlor.

aeacus.

[ he / him | lethe | carrd ] — sensitive and meek, ciri happily puts others before himself. need a messenger? healer? janitor? ciri will do it all and ask for nothing in return. he'd easily be called a pushover, and that may be true. maybe one day he'll finally snap, until then, he's happy being useful to others.

agape.

[ he / him | cocytus ] — A troubled heart looking for the home he lost. Agape lends his aid to House Cocytus, his affinity to Soul Stones is something that remains unchanged. In the halls of the parlor, he can be seen working among the House artisans, bringing Hingan arts to the sands of Eorzea.

[ he / they | cocytus ] — One of the many branches of the Sojobo family tree; vain, a trickster and a passionate flautist whose exuberant attitude is either infectious or obnoxious, no in between.

aidoneus.

[ he / him | eridanos ] — A man of shadow and darkness, quiet and calculating, with just a hint of a smile. You are seen, darkling. Fear not.

[ he / him | eridanos ] — Is that a weapon in your pocket, or are you just happy to see him? He really, really hopes it's a weapon. Please fight him.
